The web 2.0 tool I’ve chosen for this week is called “Tikatok- Every Child Has A Story.” This is a wonderful site were children can make, print, and order their own book! No, really! This would be an excellent idea for any grade level including teachers. Over the short course of my teaching career (3 years) I must have written about 30 books already. I can see myself making books for centers, picture books, math books, etc. The possibilities are endless. This would make reading and writing fun!

The pricing is fairly good, nothing over $20. You can order the books in hardcover or softcover. They even have a PDF version for about $3. Shipping costs can be anywhere from $7 - $17 depending on the shipping method. It might be a little difficult for each student to have his or her own book, but this could be a class project. It would be fun to see class books over the years.

Parents can use this website at home as well. It is very easy to use. No complicated instructions or downloads. I was shocked at how easy this was.

There are extra resources available to teachers such as story starters to help students. Lesson plan helps are available along with ways to track student progress.

This site is owned and maintained by Barnes and Noble. For teachers, a free membership is required to reap the full benefits that are offered.

You or your students own the copyright of all original stories and images submitted to Tikatok with the exception of books created using Build-A-Bear StorySparks. Build-A-Bear owns the copyright of all books created using Build-A-Bear StorySparks.

Enjoy!

I was surprised when I found this! This works great. My students enjoy the site and often use it at home. I have put together this short video on how I use www.thatquiz.org in my classroom. Hope you enjoy!

About.com Family Crafts- I chose to follow this feed because I am always looking for fun craft ideas for my students. Time is usually limited but crafts can provide a fun variation to any lesson.

Free Printable Worksheets- This feed is self explanatory. Teachers are always in need of extra work for centers, substitutes, etc. It has been my experience that when students take their textbooks home, sometimes they fail to return them. Because of this, I’ve moved toward using worksheets for homework instead of allowing the children to take home books. This has been great. This feed will help me to find age and skill level appropriate work to send home as a reinforcement for school lessons.

Free Technology for Teachers- I like this feed because there are plenty of websites to help make the workload for teachers easier. I can't wait to learn of these websites. My AR project has a lot to do with technology and the incorporation of it in the classroom. I intend to use the updates immediately. I need to know what resources are available for teachers like myself in order to properly make an assessment.

Science Experiments- I am constantly looking for simple experiments that can be done with minimal materials. Time is never on our side in the classroom so, simple experiments can make a world of a difference. I have found that my children enjoy these experiments and often attempt to do them at home. Not only am I looking for experiments for the classroom but also ones for my students to do at home
